So easy a caveman can do it...

Okay, I haven't been flintknapping for very long, but I've recently made leaps and bounds of progress.  Just a few days ago I worked a nice piece of dacite into the best point I've managed to create so far.  It isn't finished yet, but is well on its was to becoming a reasonable facsimilie of a Thebes point.  It is currently about 2 1/2 inches long, about an inch and a half wide, and I would guess about 1/4 inch thick.  I'm proud of it because I managed to get nice even pressure flaking scars to cover the entire surface.  It has taken me a while to reach the point where I can drive pressure flakes a good distance across the surface of a piece of stone.  All that remains is to notch this sucker...I'm a little afraid to try.  I don't want to break my best effort to date.  Oh's only a rock right?

Whoever came up with the saying that it is "so easy a caveman can do it" was a complete moron.  Those "cavemen" had mad skills.  We would be hard pressed to survive under the conditions those people had to endure, and you can't appreciate the skill and knowledge that were involved in such "crude" technologies as flintknapping until you've tried them for yourself.

I'll post pictures of the Thebes point when it is finished...or a picture of the pieces if I botch it...
